When a brand-new wedding venue opens in Devon, it always sparks excitement but Bow Grange, set just outside Totnes, already feels special. I recently visited and spoke with owner Tom, who shared the story behind this family-inspired venue and his vision for the future.

Tom and his lovely partner Ruby who helped make the dream a reality
A Family Dream Years in the Making
Bow Grange isn’t just a new wedding venue, it’s a passion project rooted in family history. Tom grew up watching his parents host incredible parties, often in marquees, and he always dreamed of creating a space where people could come together to celebrate.
“I used to sketch it on the back of my school planner,” he laughs. “It was always a party barn in my imagination. As I got older and worked in events, I realised weddings are the best kind of celebration. Everyone’s happy, everyone’s in a good mood. I just can’t think of anything better to be part of.”
Three years of planning, countless conversations, and a major build later, Bow Grange opened its doors in 2025.
Spaces for Every Ceremony
One of the venue’s biggest strengths is flexibility. Couples don’t need to worry about the weather or being restricted to one setting.
“We’ve registered every space,” Tom explains. “The main hall, the courtyard, and even down by the pond. Indoors, outdoors — it’s completely up to the couple. We also love working with celebrants, which gives even more options for personal ceremonies.”
A Blank Canvas with Heart
Originally a livery barn, Bow Grange celebrates its rural roots while offering a clean, neutral backdrop for any style of wedding. Timber, stone, and agricultural de tails give character, but the space is designed to be transformed.
“It’s a blank canvas,” Tom says. “Rural couples will fall in love straight away, but it’s also perfect for city couples who want to put their own stamp on it. We’ve had couples wanting to hang drapes, bring in colour with flowers, and completely customise the space. It works for everyone, you just need a little imagination.”

The Challenges and the Vision
Like any big project, Bow Grange came with its challenges. From planning permission to managing a flood of creative ideas.
“My imagination was running away with me,” Tom admits. “The hardest part was knowing when to stop. So we opened with Phase One finished and now we can learn from couples, see what works best, and shape the space around them.”
Looking ahead, Bow Grange’s main focus will be weddings, but Tom is also excited about the potential for other celebrations. With a seven-day licence, the venue can host Christmas parties, live bands, barn dances, and more. “It’s a big space, inside and out, and we can adapt it for any event,” he says.
Favourite Features
Ask Tom about his favourite part of the venue and his face lights up.
“The courtyard and pond,” he says without hesitation. “It’s such a beautiful focal point. It’s constantly changing, so no two couples will ever have the same backdrop for their photos. I love that.”
The flow of the venue is also something he’s proud of: “You’re never spread too far apart here. Whether indoors, in the courtyard, or at the bar, it all feels connected.”
Advice for Couples
When asked what advice he’d give couples using Bow Grange, Tom is clear:
“You’ve got exclusivity here. It’s your space. Use it all. Don’t cram everything into one area. I love the idea of a festival feel, with street food vendors in the courtyard and music drifting across the spaces. Weddings are a long day, so mix it up, do something different. We’ll always try to make it happen.”

A Venue with a Soundtrack
Every great wedding needs music so if Bow Grange had a soundtrack, what would it be?
“Robbie Williams’ Angels,” Tom smiles. “It’s my song. There’s a lot of me in this venue, and that song just fits.”
There’s even a family story to go with it: Tom’s late grandmother once shared a bottle of champagne with Robbie in Barbados, right when he was deciding to leave Take That. “She was convinced she’s the one who told him to go solo,” Tom laughs. “Whether it’s true or not, let’s go with it.”
It’s a story full of heart, humour, and music, much like Bow Grange itself.
Looking Ahead
As for me, I’ll be back at Bow Grange very soon performing live at their very first wedding this September. Tom told me one of the things he imagined from the start was a live singer in the courtyard, so it feels extra special to be part of that vision coming to life.
Bow Grange may be new, but it’s brimming with character, heart, and flexibility. For couples who want a venue that’s anything but ordinary, it’s one to watch.
